The Billabong Pro Tahiti by Air Tahiti Nui takes the day off

sexta-feira, 9 de maio de 2008

SURFING:The small waves on offer at Teahupoo this morning are inadequate for ASP World Tour competition and there are nine more days in which to run the four days of competition it will take to crown a Billabong Pro Tahiti champion.

According to Kevin Wallis of Surfline, conditions are expected to stay small through the weekend, but the long range forecast looks more promising. “Small surf prevails Friday through the weekend, with just leftover SW swell and weak tradeswell,” Wallis said. “Early next week looks more promising with a new WSW/SW swell. The long range potential also looks at least slightly better than what we’ve seen the past couple days.”

When Round 1 does commence, Heat 9 will pit reigning ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) against Hawaiians Pancho Sullivan and Jamie O’Brien. O’Brien earned his berth into the main event after winning the Air Tahiti Nui VonZipper Trials and, despite not being a full-time competitor on the ASP World Tour, has already tasted ASP World Tour victory. He won the Pipeline Masters as a wildcard in 2004.

Another call on competition status will be made tomorrow morning at 7. The Billabong Pro Tahiti will be webcast LIVE on aspworldtour.com and billabongpro.com
